Hey, you're right. I wouldn't even have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out, but I do tend to avoid speech in my stories. I think that I mentally divide writing into "script" and "story". One has dialogue, and the other one doesn't.
Of course, my Nano novel is chock full of dialogue. Maybe "novel" is a separate, third category.
